Personal Museum Guide

A Fontys Venlo SoFa project

The Project

The PMG project's goal is to create an interactive system for museums. Every visitor gets a role assigned. The visitor will be led through the museum and get information as specified by the role.

The museum can use sensors and actuators to make the experience interactive. By using these sensors and actuators, the system can give visitors tasks, information, and special effects.

The goal of this SoFa is to create an administrative tool for museum staff to set up roles and storylines. All kinds of sensors and actuators have to be able to be managed.

The storylines will be able to be made very flexible, because the system has to be able to work in more than just one museum. It would even be possible to use it at other locations as well.

A museum is not restricted to using roles. My making only one role, there's a general storyline for all visitors. Also if the museum doesn't want to use storylines, the system can still become very handy to use to make the visitor’s experience interactive with sensors and actuators.

Because its a very flexible system, this will probably will cause the user interface to be hard to use. We try to keep the interface as simple as possible, by making a graphical user interface.

We also have to think well about how to handle everything when there are a lot of visitors active in the museum. If all visitors have to go to the same place at the same time, it might become very crowded. We will have to find a solution for this problem.
